Questions:
For some time, the inking was thought to be done by Ulrich Schröder.
Since the origin of this information is unknown (at least to me), it is
not clear if this information is right or wrong.
Is this version exactly the same as in
Der Hamburger Donaldist 50?

- Type: story
- Art: Daan Jippes

- Script: Daan Jippes (partly based on a 1955 Barks idea)
- Hero: Uncle Scrooge
- Submission: 2001?
- Publication date: 2002, September 26
- Issue: Anders And & Co. #2002-39
- Pages: 10
Additional credits:
Partly based on the surviving "condensed version" of a
1955 idea by Barks. (Barks wrote the idea for an
animated cartoon with Scrooge, but the plans were abandoned.) Jippes also
seems to have inspired by Barks's in "Only a Poor Old Man".
Description:
A laboratory mouse blackmails Scrooge by threatening to destroy a 10.000
Euro bill. To avoid the damage, Scrooge has to bring the mouse an extremely
rare cheese, served in an expensive, extravagant way.
Backstage:
Jippes's comic book version of Barks's condensed
idea has a lot of resemblances, but also some
remarkable differences.

Additional credits:
Based on a story plot by Barks, taken from a letter to Don Rosa.
Exact story code: "D/D 2001-004".
Changes:
Barks's plot has been padded to a total of 26 pages, by adding lots of new
story material.
Some of Barks's ingredients have been changed. The most notable change is
that desperate Scrooge does not buy lottery tickets. Instead, he just gets
a free sample lottery ticket by mail.
In the U.S.A., the title is changed to "Uncle Scrooge in From Dime To Dime".
Backstage:
In a letter dated March 31, 1991, Barks wrote
to artist Don Rosa - who was working on a 12-chapter Scrooge
life-story - about the origin of his first dime. In a
letter of April 22, 1991, Barks continued with
a story-idea that went into the whereabouts of Scrooge's Old Number One being
a lucky dime.

- Publication date: 1986, December 26 (Europe, The Netherlands)

- Pages: 0 1/2
Additional credits:
Made to fill in missing art of
christmas caroling at peoples' doors. Based on amicable conversations
between Barks and Rob Klein. (No notes were made). On June 24, 1999,
Klein remembered Barks confirming that the "Great stuff! Great stuff!"
dialogue exactly was according to his recollection of the half page.
It's difficult to guess how the original half page exactly may have been. Maybe
it indeed contained a neighborhood overview in the first panel (which would
underscore the silent night and Donald disturbing it), but maybe it contained
another panel of Donald being carried away by the book?
See christmas caroling at peoples' doors [remake of reconstruction], for more
information.
Remakes:

- Donald reading a book while saying "Great stuff! Great stuff!"

own conclusion to the story.
Changes:
The words "money bin" in the dialogue of panel 1.5 were changed

Backstage:
At the end of 1996 Barks worked on a new Donald Duck comic book story, called
"Somewhere in Nowhere" (28 pages). The story idea, by Barks, was worked out
in travel to Orlando. Bill Grandey and Kathy Morby of the in 1998 defuncted
Carl Barks Studio, hired freelancer John Lustig to put Barks' gags and story
together with dialogue. Pat Block
provided the art. Barks' role was editing his and Lustig's work as well as art.
Detailed information
Interviews:
- 1997 Carl Barks phone interview by Fabio Pozzo (Rapallo, Italy)
Published in Italian "La Stampa" daily paper in February 6, 1997. Possibly as part
of an article by Guido Tiberga.

Block made two inked covers, which seem to be unpublished. (Xeroxes circulate
among fans.) One of them has the same design as
walrusses pulling sled.

chance to attack the money bin. But Donald "saves" Scrooge from the marriage
with Brigitta.

The original Barks sketch with the idea got lost, before it was printed anywhere.

Italian book on Scarpa by Luca Boschi, Leonardo Gori and Andrea Sani, as well
as in "Uncle Scrooge" No. 242, April 1990. (Another recreation of this
sketch, also by Scarpa, has been published in the "French Picsou Magazine -
60° anniversaire de Donald.")

Notes:
As far as known, this story has never been reprinted outside of Italy.
It is mentioned as "The Golden Bunch" in "Uncle Scrooge" No. 242.
Part 2 of the story has been published in Topolino (Libretto) 1062
