Project: W OS 62-03 in Mystery of the Swamp ?
Finished version: Student Witch

Additional credits: Sketch of a detail in Student Witch. According to Stephen Eberhart's article "Somewhere Under the Rainbow (Part I)", published in The Barks Collector 21, this is a sketch of an early Gneezle.

Running man with a beard, webbed feet and tail-fins, wearing a top hat and a jacket.

Backstage: Stephen Eberhart, in the mentioned article: "When Barks was drafting the appearance of the Gneezles [...], he was apparently in doubt how much to make them of the earth, and how much of the water. In one sketch [...] he leaned more toward water and gave them webbed feet; later, as we saw, he switched and gave them standard 4-toed Disney earth-feet, making their ears webbed instead. He also eliminated the tail-fins, and made them wear trousers instead of jackets."

Owners, past and present: From the collection of Steve Styron.

Publications:

The Barks Collector 21 ([?])
[monochrome]; small picture

Questions: Do you have more information on this material? Is there really a Gneezle-connection? Has this sketch been made in the 1940s, at the time Barks was working on in Mystery of the Swamp? Or has it been made from recollection, during the making of Student Witch? (Does Stephen Eberhart's article mention the existance of this painting?)
