Date: 1983, April 17
Type: Handwritten on 11.25 x 8.5 lined yellow paper
Sender: Carl Barks
Receiver: Rodney Schroeter

Description: Letter had been folded to fit a small envelope; folds are still visible, but has been stored flat since 1983.

Letter reads, in part: "I regret that I cannot promise to be home and receiving visitors as far off as August. We have been real stick-in-the-mud types for many years, but this year we hope to do some wandering ourselves. There were always quite a few visitors at our house from the San Diego Con and from nearby Disneyland. We met many fans from far away places, espcially during the summer months. And as we watched them drive away to cool exotic places we wished we could someday do as much. I hope you will understand and will not be too disappointed."

Owners, past and present:

Auctioned at Ebay, December 1, 2000.
According to the seller, the letter "does not contain anything of historical interest (no new facts on creating Uncle Scrooge, etc.), or (in the seller's perception) anything of a personal, private nature."

Date: [1988, or thereabouts?]
Type: Letter, typewritten
Sender: Carl Barks blanket reply

Description: Accompanied with a separate enclosure on which Barks lists three publishers of printed sources that give the most extensive Barks coverage.

Part of this standard-letter reads: "I apologize for having to use this impersonal way of answering such complimentary letters and hope that you will not be offended. Due to the fact that I am still working full time on paintings for a Disney licensee, I cannot adequately answer the many great letters that find their way to my mailbox. I will try to answer several of the most common writers' requests with this 'blanket reply'."

Publications:

Possibly in "Carl Barks - Die Biographie" by Peter Reichelt and Michael Barrier. ("From the Desk of Carl Barks", page 018.)
